About
Come for an informal visit with Renata Graw, the founder of Normal. Renata holds an MFA in Graphic Design from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and has studied in Basel and Urbino under design masters such as Wolfgang Weingart, Karel Martens, Armand Mevis, and Leonardo Sonnoli.
Normal is a multidisciplinary graphic design practice based in Chicago, IL. Normal believes thoughtful design and collaboration strengthen our collective knowledge and define new ways of seeing, communicating, and experiencing the world. Normal is Renata Graw, Lucas Reif, and Noël Morical.
Renata will have samples of both new and old projects displayed across Normal’s Wicker Park space, allowing visitors to investigate the wide breadth of strategies and materials at play in the studio’s practice. Normal will lift the curtain to reveal that there is no magic behind their design process—just hard work and a passion for detail.
What you can expect to learn
- Attendees can expect to browse a selection of books and other printed matter designed by Normal, with Renata Graw elucidating her small studio’s working process.
- Attendees will learn about Normal’s design methodology: namely, that our greatest social power as designers lies in the constant definition, and redefinition, of the normal.
- We hope attendees will learn that trends don’t always have to be followed, that rules can be broken—but sometimes shouldn’t—and that form not only follows function but most times also must follow budgets, timelines, and the whims of clients.
