Immersive experiences with Ashley Lukasik

In the 1990s, Ashley Lukasik, like most teenagers, found solace and refuge in the visceral nature of the listening experience. There was kinship, community, and a sense of belonging in her allegiance to music subcultures and alongside her peers, she religiously collected records and curated mixtapes. Of course, this was during the infancy of the internet. Finding new artists wasn’t as easy as today; back then, it was a ritual in the real world, not hunched over behind a tiny screen.

Today, Lukasik carries the same enthusiasm and curiosity for the rituals that make up the human experience. In 2020, she founded Murmur Ring, her consulting agency, which brings people together around a central topic or theme and curates immersive experiences that allow people to interact with one another and exchange ideas in the real world. Lukasik believes technology cannot replace the innate need for human connection and carries a healthy dose of skepticism around the concept that technology will solve all of humanity’s problems.

Through Murmur Ring, she brings stories to life through immersive experiences and leverages design methodologies that lead to innovation projects and community engagement initiatives.

In 2020, her agency crafted editorial, photography, and communications and led publicity for the rebranding of one of Chicago’s iconic buildings, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s 900 910 Lake Shore

Before founding Murmur Ring, Lukasik spent over 7 years at Chicago’s Institute of Design, where she served as Director of Corporate Relations, Communications & Marketing. In 2019, she co-produced the film the New Bauhaus, which examined the life and work of Hungarian artist and designer László Moholy-Nagy.

We are certain that the innate human need for connection in the real world is more potent than ever before.

Murmur Ring develops custom experiences and stories, visualizing with our clients a full process from early conception to identify key strategic priorities on which an experience or story might be based. Upon execution, we then help clients extend the value to your organization.

Murmur Ring’s Process

In our podcast, Underscore, I spoke with Lukasik about how design and technology shape humanity’s behavior and relationship with each other and the world.
